Having breakfast back in St. Hilda’s was an awesome time. Not only did I get to visit Miss Yew, my fave pure geo teacher who now is the VP of the school, I met other amazing people in that group. Two ex-Hildans were there too. Mala, who is currently teaching in TP in communications and was studying in the old school at Ceylon road when it was still a girls’ school. Amazing how she still keeps in contact with school! And Siew May in her 30s.
40s, 30s… That makes me the 20s generation sitting among them. Striking a conversation with them and others in the meal was interesting. One thing that stood out was how Siew May is a strong willed and a cheerful person though she has cerebral palsy. And her gungho spirit is displayed when I was told she scaled Mount Everest. In the next few days, do look out for her in the papers, as she is launching her book, Scaling Walls, this Sunday in Jurong. It talks about her life, difficulties faced and how she overcame. She has a positive outlook on life and does not feel cooped down with her disability. Moreover, she feels blessed that though she had some tough obstacles, she knew she had a God given purpose and destiny in her life. Can’t wait to read her book, and get inspired.
Another guy, Laurence, is into environment and immersing youth into the Asian culture and set up many programs like overseas trips to China to allow youths to appreciate and take an active role in serving others. Was told that there is this ongoing project in Pulau Ubin, where a group of them are doing some landscaping/urban design kind of project on the north beach scape area. He’s looking for people interested in doing environment film projects, so if you are, I can pass you he’s contacts.
To end off,
A labour of sweat,
A labour of blood,
A labour of weakness,
A labour of foolishness,
A labour of perseverance,
A labour of strength,
A labour of love,
A labour of passion.
That sums up the journey of FYP.
Short & Sweet. (:
