Someone once asked me this question, “Which is your favourite building in Singapore?”
I didn’t know how to answer, not because I didn’t had a fave but Singapore had so little building that can just stand there which make you go wow.
That person replied, “Esplanade?” Um… It’s unique but not so suitable if you want to compete in international competitions. It was suppose to be a James Stiring building but he died before he could complete and the project was taken over by his partner. (*Our lecturer told this to us)
As I thought back to that question, I finally know how to answer it. I have not one but three buildings.
National Museum
Fullerton Hotel
A Condo near Novena sq
It was my first time visiting NM after its revamp. As a kid, I would stick close to my mum. Because I remembered the old building as a dark and gloomy place that seemed pretty scary to go inside. So when I first entered the revamped museum, the rain didn’t dampen my mood. I was totally captured by the architecture. The new glass atrium tied in with the old neo classical building. And when the rain hit the glass walkway, it gives a watery effect when you stare into the sky. "melts" (something like a carwash)
Here's a snipet. I have too many to chose from! Everyone should not miss the opportunity and head down to the NM! Experience it for yourself!
Fullerton Hotel. The grand dame. Watching it at night from Esplanade walk with its backdrop against the CBD gives lots of contrast. The play of lights also makes it interesing. Though I have not been inside, I managed to have a peek. It has a rich interior.
Ah… I don’t know the name of this condo. But this was my reply to that person at that point of time. I always admired that building each time I take the bus to grandmas and it passes by that area. Its sleek and thin structure made me wonder how small the interior must be. And the windows had many interesting voids that made it looked like a puzzle.

As you can see they were secretly taken in the bus. Oops!
Anyone know the name of the condo?
Ah... 24 more days till end of IAD Project 1! What more the dateline is after CNY! Bah... Must tahan...
