Last week of the June hols has come and gone... Sob sob... but it has also been a time of great memories, fun and laughter!
Wednesday:To kick of this last week, we had our Wednesday leader's cell. At last! After such a long long time...
WE NEED SPIRITUAL FOOD!!! Cell was rather interesting...
Scenario:
P&W. Song being sung was "Came to the Rescue". And before anybody can say... "I called, you answered"... We went off key. We had to take at least 2 verses and chorus to get "tuned" back into the right one.
I actually wanted to go back into the right key... but I guess I didn't want to make it obvious that the worship leader sang wrongly. Or I'll be going to pai sei him. So I just kept silent. Actually, it makes me reflect to the time I was in the worship committee in Gb. When the worship leader went off key, one of the officers (who is a church singer herself) will sing in the correct tune. And that happened not in rehearsals, but during the service!
We had a "soprano" who sang really very high... while another sang as a low baritone. It was so low, I guess we all couldn't hear! (No offence to you guys!)
Since then, when I hear someone singing "Came to the Rescue" or see the worship leader, I would always remember about this whole funny incident! (And ironically, I'm listening to it right now!)
Also, it was kind of funny that we were given a prep talk about dating and choosing the right kind. You know like must be from church... Etc. Well, I guess they meant to well for us. But it sounded a bit wrong when the topic of dating slowly turned to marriage. So looks like many of us will be in the "lonely hearts club" for a few more years... Hahaha...
Thursday:We had the T2T mentoring program in New Town Pri. I didn't get to teach any kid on that day.
Scenario:
There were 2 boys and 2 girls with four mentors. (Abigail, Amanda, Chris and me) But since boys are boys, Chris took the 2 playful boys. While Abigail and Amanda took one each. Leaving me with doing nothing! So I just sat there and did the maths paper.
It was also quite difficult to talk to them, as this is the first time you are meeting them. And you have not quite make the connection with them. I guess they are too scared to ask us questions!
The boys kept on saying the word lame sh*t at every question Chris gives to them. They were just following the actors in "I not stupid too". And he had to give them warnings about saying it.
Overall, the games and tutoring was fun. But I feel a bit useless, as I wasn't doing anything much!
Friday:It was another day of mentoring them and games. This time, I had a kid to tutor! Yay! Her name was Elizabeth. Which she had me trying to guess when I came into the classroom. She was those kind of kid who was on the tomboyish side even with long hair. (You know the kind that act and look rough and tough and plays football kind? Hey... That sounds a bit like me! Hahaha...)
Teaching her was a bit tough... She would always ask me if her workings were correct before going on to write the next line of workings! So took a bit of time for her to complete a question. At the end of the mentoring, we played charades.
Scenario:
Two teams (uneven number of 5 against 8). So each side had to act out the given word. It was really funny when a pri6 boy was acting like a woman walking (think in terms of her butt swaying). And guess what was the answer? Teletubbies! There was certainly no connection to that word... maybe it is the walking... But it was centuries ago since we saw this kind of shows!
Saturday:It was Amazing Food Race! Was really excited into going for it. After all I'm a fan of Amazing race. The rules and way of playing was the same as in the Taiwanese food game. Except we had the last word to find a new food. (E.g. noodles. Use any of the letters to get a new food. Duck noodles)
Our game master was Franco. Which the pri6 boys like to call him GM. (which was funny, you know General manager?) The boys also kept on saying lame sh*t again at tasks being given but they were SUPER entu about it.
We played mostly in the west area. We went to places like Adam Road, Bukit Timah, Clementi, Harbour Front and Ghim Moh. And we ONLY had one proper meal of fishball noodles (which was the first given food). The rest were small stuff. Nasi Lemak (the rice ONLY with chili and cucumber), egg tart, teh tarik and ice kachang.
We also had to do task at every place. Like using the food to form our group name (F). Adding water to food (ours is teh tarik, imagine those with noodles!). And writing our name backwards using your butt. (my partners had a long name that cannot be short formed!)
And I happy to tell you that my group F came in first!!! Yay! The organizers didn't expect the teams to come back before 4pm. They were lazing around the hall area. So we stepped on the platform like what the Amazing race show would do... And took quite a few pics. Soon, other groups came in. Amazingly those that came back were from our west sector 1. (Heard that our route was the easy one)
And I did not know that Franco had given us lesser task to do. Other groups took 3 lipstick kisses while we took 1! So in the end, we won fourth prize. So it was really an enjoyable time to mingle with the kids (whom they like to call us teachers) and work as a team!
Went to church later and wore the Sonic Edge shirt my cell got for me! But there were many others who wore that too... guys who wore the same colour I had. Maybe the brown was a better colour for everybody.
Also went for the T2T dinner at Farrer Court. Had evaluation and catered food. I loved their ma bao to fu and square shaped fried otah! Yum yum!
Went back with those who were staying in the East. (we can form a group to head back next time!) But I came back close to midnight and my dad was kind of worried. He scolded me for being too late and not allowing me to stay outside for so long next time.
At that time, I felt a bit hurt. I can't help it that it ended late. But I know that he scolded me for my own good. After all, who wants their daughter to walk alone at night in the dark? Who knows what may happen... So it's kind of a warning for me to take heed.
So this has been my week full of activities which has both my ups and downs. But I will never forget how much fun there was with the T2T kids and playing the games given to us!
