WE ARE FAMILY... Deeper Life Camp 06'Even as I'm writing this I'm still having withdrawal symptoms of the camp after a week has passed... I got the symptoms of flu and cough... Why did it end so fast? I missed everything there... The food, P&W, FunNight, Sermon, Games and late nights, etc. Im just getting so high and hype about it... Still in lahlah land of church camp that people are bugging me to post more... Hahah... Sorry didnt mean to say like that lah...
DAY 1 (4 June)Boy was I so happy, excited, full of energy for the camp! It was the first time the adults, kids and youth will be all under the same roof. The theme was, We are Family. (You know like that song...lahlah...hahah) It was held at the grandest place ever! The Palace of the Golden Horses! And stars like David Beckham and the Brazil football team have been there! Wow! 6 star... I was getting excited already!
I came to church quite late as mine was the last bus (17) and we had to give way to the other buses first. During the bus ride up, we met with a MASSIVE traffic jam. (But it wasnt so bad... the bus could still crawl) Sadly, my coach didnt pass by any A&W joint. I was really hoping to attack their crony dogs and ice cream waffles! We arrived an hour late to the hotel.
The whole place was so posh... Marble flooring, fountains, long staircases and MANY MANY horses of different design. (Mind you there were many!) I was kind of lost as the admin had given out two keys to my roommates (Grace O, Grace G, Jennifer). So I was told to bring my heavy luggage all the way to the East lawn for dinner.
Dinner was buffet. We had rice, chicken, beef, fish and lamb. Yup... all the meat you can ever have! But woah... the cakes and dessert was heavenly! Puddings (!), carrot cake (!!), two type of choc cakes (Screams!).
Grace G and Jen then led me to our room. It was so nice! Marble floor in bath and a king sized bed! Then I realized that we had a connecting door. And guess who was next door? Gideon and friends (Kenneth, Jerome, Jackston)! Then, we were to have youth briefing. Little did I know that it wasnt. The night was young... And we had games, cheers, horses waves and tribes. And Im proud to say that Im in the Godfather tribe. (Not in the gangster way!) Keith meaning: God is our heavenly Father, so Godfather!
We also had a stocking game, which was the wackiest game I have ever seen! Everyone looked like burglars! And shocking was the person who was the "stoc-king"! So after all the fun, we went back to our rooms, but all of us were sluggish to bathe first... So after a long delay, we could sleep.
But it was weird for four people to squeeze on the bed. So in order we slept (from left to right): grace G. grace O. jen. sam. Funny that 3 of us were godfather. While I is stable, grace O.
(*For the rest on what happened, pls refer to grace O's post on day 1) But, I can say that we did the godfather cheer before sleeping! (but, we NG many times loh)

DAY 2 (5 June)Bright and early was the next day. We had a great breakfast. (congee, eggs, pastries and cakes!) Then, we went for games! I have never played any of the games before. And it was fun working as a tribe to do crazy things. (Getting wet, swallowing coffee powder, Acting like a horse while singing Majestic and acting to the theme: THE BONE) The final game was a tele-match and tribes had to go through detergent, ice water and spinning like anything just to transport water!
After lunch, we had five love language. Guess whats mine? Ask me also can... We were then given time to plan our funnight. Little did I know I was given acting to do! Oh my... why did I select that colour? Though being in front of people sounds cool... We were told to ballot a script (bible parable) and a genre.
We had the parable of the wise and foolish builder and genre was western! I went into stupid mode when someone asked who watches TV. I raised my hand and was told to be the director! I was just being honest! But I guess I shouldnt have lifted my hand that kind of time. OK... well at least I got a little help from Egan. (2nd director) But what I would appreciate if the adults helped more in the script. (They said youths are more creative at it) But at least I was thankful that they were supportive in doing any role we give to them.
So then there was dinner. So sat with Egan to think of a storyline... Jon from stickmama (another tribe) kept on asking us if we were hungry. He said that when we are hungry we cant think of ideas. But we werent. So we came up with a short one and then departed. Sat with my roommates for dinner and then we had our first session in the unity room.
At unity room, we met with our camp speaker, Pastor Paul Andrew from Hillsong church (youth). We learnt about Jesus at the temple (in Luke) and living life on FIRE!
Slept quite late as I was thinking of a better western script. Kept on thinking of Indiana Jones, Brokeback, Russian roulette and was so tired that I drew cowboys just to keep awake. Grace G and Jen were concern that I will start sprouting things in my sleep like cowboys and guns… So this time only 3 of us took the bed. Grace O was busying scandalizing... (not to be mentioned)
Grace O came back late and I kind of help her steal the comforter off Jen. Jen got startled when we put it off her hands. Hahaha... her reaction was so funny!
DAY 3 (6 June)I was quite sluggish when waking up in the morning. Then we had session and lunch. And then time to meet up with group F for acting. Thank goodness at least Katrianne, Samuel and Nicolas (Pri6 cell) were in the same group as me! And thanks to Grace O who came up with a very good script just on the spot while on the way to majestic room! Everyone liked it!
It was kind sad as I had to do acting. Many others who were doing either modeling or table deco had time to go to MINES to do shopping. And a big thank you to Grace O and G for staying in the majestic room and accompanying me when they are acting though they were free and could have gone to MINES!
It was funny seeing Roy and Hwee Tng acting as farmers going to build a barn! Especially Roy when he did his Texan styled accented and lingo!
Then we were given time to R&R, so we went back and played heart attack with guys. And poor thing that Gideon's cards had been folded and bend in many ways!
Joke of the day:
Jerome threw his comforter to our room and we hide it. He found it and was about to leave our room when he heard Gideon and Kenneth coming through the main door. So at the connecting door, he threw the comforter onto Gideon and Gideon took one look at it and (shocked face) screamed like a girl! It was so funny everyone could not stop laughing. It was sad no one had a camera at hand to prepare for his reaction!
After dinner, we had P&W. The session was totally awesome! We could feel God's presence. God was moving in our midst, touching and restoring the broken and healing many. It was really a life-changing night.
DAY 4 (7 June)(Just to cut short) After lunch, was the preparation for fun night. We did a few changes to our script and left for dinner after that.
At dinner, I was just about to put my plate down to eat. Suddenly, one of the waiters came up and was about to clear my plate! I got shocked that he thought I had eaten finish. (I guess when we want them to clear, they are slow and when you dont want they are fast!) After that, I got myself cut (of all things) by an ironing board! I could not fix the board to stand... And Gideon did not have a plaster!
Then, we had to prepare and touch up our script and costume for fun night. It was funny seeing the two farmers in high shorts and checkered shirts. Or Samuel wearing a big cowboy hat and a black bull racing costume. Or even Egan wearing a woman dress and a scarf. (the dress has a very low v-neckline) And this time he didn't wear any shirt underneath... oops! ( Nicolas was very cheeky as he kept on lifting his scarf to expose) I didn't take the important role... I was the barn. And I chose to wear a pink-laced shirt seen in western shows. (kind of short but pretty!)
After our acting, Paul Sieow from the creative ministry came up and told us that our mentos advertisement was classic, funny and original. (Thanks to Grace O!) Other groups had to dance and act to the tune for hip-hop, Chinese wahyang and Bollywood.
Though our group didn't win any of the awards, I was satisfied and happy that we did a great job acting and dancing to cowboys and Red Indian tunes. It was a night to remember...
When we came back from the fun night, we found many guys spilling into our room. (Must be Paul lah... bring his roommates in) (And because we had not locked the connecting door) So we had to stay in Gideon's room so that we had some peace to nap. While our room became a "gambling" room by Paul and friends.
It was quite a joke when we had difficulty calling room service to order, canceling one order, being put on hold, music played on the phone, a letter at the door to inform us of our cancelled order, an Indian operator (Which Jonathan was good at mimicking), their food coming in at 11 plus and a cockroach on the tray!
After all the crowd left, the rooms left Grace G, Jerome, Jackston and me. MIA: Kenneth (went outside to QT), Gideon (Scandal), Grace O (Scandal) and Jen (Partying with Uni. pple). So the guys came and sat on the floor in our room to talk (Since we're waiting for the MIAs to come back). It was kind of interesting to hear what the guys had to say about their school life, siblings and about church. It just felt so much like I'm talking to my bro.
And someone said that we should stay up the whole night. At first I didn't want to be in it, but did it for the fun. But strangely, the person who wanted it fell asleep first! So did the other one! (anonymous)
DAY 5 (8 June)We woke up and realized that it was 9 and breakfast ends at 9.30! So we rushed for breakfast, then P&W, testimony, communion and more packing. We also had last minute photo-taking with irons, slippers, cups and telephone cable! hahaha! And then there was lunch and finally leaving the hotel for home sweet home!
I feel that this camp has made me grow much closer to people. I made new friends and I won't need to be saying things like... Who is she or he? So to this people:
1. Grace O (You were there for me, helping in my script and being scandalous!)
2. Grace G (She hogged the bed and mug at night)
3. Jennifer (You held on the comforter so tightly! And did not get drunk when drinking wine)
4. Gideon (Was there to accompany me when the rest were not in the room. Cos we can't find our roommates!)
5. Jerome (Screams, Sings and does funny and stupid videos of himself)
6. Jackston (Pity him when he tells us his life story)
7. Chris (My bro who woke up at 1030 the last day and was late for service!)
8. Yen Peng (Always calling you YP and your toi toi issue!)
9. To my pri6 cell members (Katrianne, Abigail, Paul, Samuel and Nicolas)
10. Wen Jie (As my small gp ldr and a great person who always pray for us!)
11. And to anybody else I have missed out!
So... Thank you to DEEPER LIFE CAMP 06'! It was a TOTALLY AWESOME and GREAT! I still miss camp, the lake, the hotel, the horses, the horse-leg table, fun night, the marble floor in the bathroom, the bed, the connecting door roommates, games and ministry time. I do hope that there is more camps like this and Palace of the Golden Horses Signing off! (Horses love your Neigh-bours!)
